NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive justice for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society.
How we accomplish that is up to us. We are driven by our membership. Whatever y’all want to work on to make things better for women, we can work on.
Austin NOW has a proud history of creating change. Some years ago, Jean Craig walked into an Austin NOW meeting and said she had an issue. Her breast implants were making her sick, and nobody was listening to her about it. NOW listened – and we took action. We advocated for federal legislation that required additional research, increased FDA oversight, and mandated that women in clinical trials receive complete and accurate information on the risks of implants. Jean testified before Congress and has spoken in public many times about the dangers of breast augmentation surgery.
So what’s your issue? Join us and let’s get to work on it!
